Sinamics Starter V5.4 May 2026
SINAMICS
SINAMICS STARTER V5.4 is a pivotal release of Siemens' commissioning tool for and MICROMASTER drive systems. It is highly regarded for bridging the gap between legacy drive management and modern operating system requirements while introducing critical security and database stability updates. Key Features and Performance
- PROFIBUS DP: Via a PC adapter (e.g., CP5512 or USB-to-PROFIBUS adapters).
- PROFINET: Standard Ethernet connection (IP address based), commonly used with G120 and S120 CU320-2 PN units.
- USS Protocol: Serial communication (RS485) often used for smaller drives like MICROMASTER 4.
- Click Options > Set PG/PC Interface.
- Select "PN/IE (PROFINET Industrial Ethernet)" as the access point.
- Choose your PC’s physical Ethernet adapter.
- Ensure your PC’s IP is in the same subnet as the drive (e.g., G120 defaults to 192.168.0.1).
- Dated interface – Looks like Windows XP-era software. Not intuitive for beginners.
- No longer updated – V5.4 was replaced by V5.5 (and now TIA Portal Drive integration). Newer drives (e.g., G220) require TIA.
- Communication setup can be tricky – Getting online via PROFIBUS, PROFINET, or USS sometimes requires manual PG/PC interface config.
- No modern safety integration – Safety functions are visible but cumbersome compared to TIA Portal's "Startdrive".
- Windows compatibility – Works on Win10 (with admin rights), but can be finicky on Win11. Doesn't support Win7 without patches.
Key Capabilities:
- No official support for Windows 11 or modern Ethernet adapters.
- Cannot commission S210 drives (requires Startdrive).
- No native PN/PN coupler configuration.
- Not integrated with TIA Portal (must use separate tool).
- Limited V90 support — use V-Assistant instead.
