As of 2025, the original Picocrypt project has been by its author. The author stated that while the software remains stable, secure, and has passed a professional security audit, he has moved on from active development. Picocrypt is finally getting a security audit! - General
- The outer volume contains decoy encrypted data that looks random (standard for encrypted files).
- The inner volume is not stored contiguously — its blocks are interleaved with dummy data across the file using a keyed pseudo-random index.
- Without the inner password, the entire file behaves as a normal encrypted archive. Even entropy analysis cannot distinguish “real” data from “decoy” blocks.
Picocrypt assumes an attacker who can:
The result is a .pcv file that is effectively a digital vault. To get your files back, simply drag the .pcv file into the app, enter your password, and click Decrypt. Conclusion picocrypt
