Step 3: Fine-Tune Your Transmission
- Logic: High preload locks the wheels together early, causing massive wheelspin. Low preload allows the differential to slip slightly, smoothing out the power delivery and preventing instant tire smoke.
Drive Wheels (Rear for RWD):
Use the lowest possible tire pressure for the maximum contact patch during launch. Need for Speed: ProStreet drag racing is often
Front Shocks:
Set these to Stiff . You want the front of the car to stay down to maintain aerodynamic stability and prevent excessive "bouncing" after a wheelie. Logic: High preload locks the wheels together early,
- 1st Gear: This must be short enough to launch hard but long enough that you don't hit the rev limiter immediately. If 1st gear is too long, you will bog down (slow launch); if it's too short, you will spin your tires.
- 2nd & 3rd Gears: These should be spaced progressively. You want the RPM to drop to just above your peak torque point when you shift.
- Tip: Dyno test your car. Look at the "Torque Curve." Your gears should be spaced so that every time you shift up, the RPM drops back to the start of that high torque curve.
