  • 2. ¿Dónde está el país de las hadas? (1983)

A step towards more sophisticated production and deeper lyrics.

    3. Ya viene el sol (1984)

The album that consolidated their massive success across Spain and Latin America.

¿Dónde está el país de las hadas? (1983)

Segundo álbum que consolidó al grupo con temas que mezclan melodía y síntesis pop, y una mayor experimentación en arreglos.

    Lyrical Innovation:

Mecano broke Spanish pop taboos: lesbian love ("Mujer contra mujer"), abortion ("El fallo positivo"), anti-clericalism ("El cura y el mandarín"), and death penalty ("Otro muerto"). José María’s lyrics are literary (inspired by Lorca, Quevedo); Nacho’s are more observational and witty.

The dynamic between the Cano brothers was the engine: Nacho, the melodic perfectionist with a gift for the unforgettable hook; José María, the literary composer who brought gravitas and classical ambition. Tying it all together was Ana Torroja, whose distinctive voice provided the emotional human element that prevented the electronic music from feeling cold.
