Master the "L R Copy Format" in Excel: Copy Left to Right (Without Breaking Formatting)
Pitfalls and Edge Cases
Left-to-Right
In Excel, the "L R" context for copying formats often refers to handling versus Right-to-Left (R-L) workbook orientations, or technical shortcuts for copying formatting from one cell (Left) to another (Right).
Select the left cell or range (e.g., A1:A5 – a left column block).
Press Ctrl + C to copy (even though you don’t want values, Excel needs the copy action).
Select the target cells to the right (e.g., B1:G5).
Right-click and choose Paste Special (or press Ctrl + Alt + V).
In the dialog box, select Formats.
Click OK.
