- Segment Routing v6 (SRv6) – not supported until 7.x
- gNMI/gNOI telemetry – requires 7.x or newer
- High-scale BGP (4M+ routes) – demo image lacks route scale license
- Production or pre-production validation
- Stability: Later versions (7.5.1+) introduced the "XRv9k" kernel changes that increased boot times to 15+ minutes. 6.1.3 is snappy.
- Documentation: Most CCIE SP training materials (INE, Narbik, Cisco Live presentations from 2018–2020) use version 6.1.2 or 6.1.3 as their reference.
- Hardware compatibility: Runs comfortably on older servers (e.g., Dell R720, Intel E5-2670 v2).
