The story begins years after Mo accidentally reads three characters out of a medieval tale called Inkheart —the villainous (Andy Serkis), his henchman Basta, and the conflicted fire-eater Dustfinger (Paul Bettany). In exchange for their arrival, Mo's wife, Resa, was pulled into the book's pages. Now, Mo and his daughter Meggie must find a rare copy of the book to rescue Resa while avoiding Capricorn, who wants to use Mo’s power to summon a monstrous entity known as The Shadow .
