Fall Out Boy is a maximalist band
Don’t grab the FLACs for Vol. 2 (if it ever officially compiles the post-hiatus stuff) expecting pristine jazz clarity. Grab them because — they shove horns, strings, synth pads, six guitar layers, and three vocal harmonies into a 3:30 pop song. MP3s smear that into a grey paste. - FLAC advantage: Noticeable on “What a Catch, Donnie” (orchestral layers + backing vocals) and “Lake Effect Kid” (guitar texture).
- Streaming (320kbps MP3/AAC): Very close for casual listening; FLAC reveals slightly more air and decay on cymbal hits.
- Vinyl vs. FLAC: The CD/digital master is brick-walled on Vol. 2 tracks; vinyl may have better dynamics, but FLAC is more convenient and noise-free.
