1. Log in to the EPLAN Customer Portal.
2. Navigate to Downloads → Software Updates.
3. Filter by:
   1. Right-click the downloaded UPD .exe and select "Run as Administrator".
   2. The EPLAN Update Wizard will launch.
   3. Read the license terms and click Next.
   4. The wizard will detect your current version. If it does not match the prerequisite (e.g., you need SP1 but only base version is installed), the installer will abort with a clear error.
   5. Click Install.
   6. Wait for the progress bar to complete (could take 5–20 minutes depending on file size).
   7. Click Finish.
   8. Reboot your computer – this is non-negotiable. EPLAN updates often replace system DLLs and registry keys.
   • Use HTTPS only – The EPLAN portal uses TLS 1.2+.
   • Verify digital signatures – After download, right-click the .exe → Properties → Digital Signatures. You should see "EPLAN Software & Service GmbH & Co. KG". If missing or invalid, discard the file immediately.
   • Avoid cracked updates – Piracy sites offering "free EPLAN UPD" often bundle ransomware or keyloggers. Since EPLAN dongles are hardware-protected, such cracks are virtually always malware.
   • Update the License Manager separately – The EPLAN License Manager (ELM) often requires its own separate update. Check for ELM_Update_x64.exe on the portal.
