The Foil (Opposites Attract): The characters have opposing worldviews (Order vs. Chaos, Cynic vs. Idealist). The spark comes from the friction of their differences. The conflict arises from their inability to understand the other's perspective.
In a weak relationship, two characters exist side-by-side. In a strong relationship, a "third identity" is formed—the relationship itself. This entity has its own needs, its own history, and its own fatal flaws.
