No release is without its challenges. ArcGIS 10.5 required significant IT knowledge—users had to understand distributed computing, virtual machines, and SSL certificates to fully deploy GeoAnalytics and GeoEvent. Additionally, organizations entrenched in traditional file-based GIS (shapefiles and file geodatabases) found the leap to enterprise portals intimidating. The licensing also became more complex, as many features previously free required separate licenses or credits.
